Prevention of tobacco beetles in cigars

When tobacco beetles attack cigars they turn the cigars in to small bits as if they were shot from a short distance. Just imagine the pain taken by the tobacco producer in producing it and hand rolling in to beautiful cigars, the pain of purchasing it with feeling, paying a good price. It is more painful when the box of such a cigar is opened on time of celebration of a special occasion.

An adult tobacco beetle is 2-3 millimeters. Adult with its sibling make their way very easily through the box. If you experience the attack of these heartless tobacco beetles on your cigars, you are suggested to deep freeze every cigar you have or buy.

It is a simple process. Put the cigars, boxes and all in the freezer for 72 hours. Now remove them from the freezer and put them on the lowest shelf of the refrigerator. Leave them there for 24 hours.

While your cigars are undergoing this process, clean the humidor with a damp cloth to get rid of even the larva hiding in some corner of the box. Never use a pesticide in your humidor, as it will start smelling of chemical and will thus become useless for your cigars. Use a cloth dampened with distilled water and clean the walls of the humidor. Lift the box onto its sides and brush downwards with the cloth thus cleaning its floor. Clean the corners upwards and out of the box. Another way is to use compressed air to blast all unwanted elements out and clean the box properly.

Clean the humidor as well as you can so that your cigar can be safe and secure. Beetles prosper in a temperature of 74 degrees Fahrenheit and above, so try to keep your cigars in a temperature between 68 degrees Fahrenheit to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tobacco beetles can cause a lot of damage to your favourite cigars so it is best to take precautions to prevent your cigars from these heartless creatures.
